FCMB Gov’s Cup Day One: Adamu, Enoseregbe Through to Next Round as Nigerian Ladies Fumble.

The opening day of the FCMB Governor’s Cup Futures 1 witnessed missed reactions to the performances of Nigerian players as three men qualified for the second round, while their female colleagues were handed defeats at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, on Monday.

Sani Adamu stunned onlookers at the Lord Rumens Centre Court by staging a come-back from one set down to beat Davis Cup member Shehu Lawal, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 to reach the next round.

While Clifford Enoseregbe was the better of the match-up with compatriot John Otu, who retired in the second set of their Future 1 tie with Enoseregbe leading by a set (6-1).

Three of the Nigerian ladies crashed out of the women’s singles in Future 1 on Day one of the tournament.

Zarah Razafmahatratra of Madagascar saw off Idia Amen 6-3, 6-2, wile Slovakia’s top seed Tadeja Majeric recorded a double bagel against Blessing Samuel.

The other double bagel in Day One of the women’s singles came from China’s Xi-Yao, who beat Sarah Adegoke 6-0, 6-0.
