The wives of the President and the Vice-President, Dame Patience Jonathan and Hajiya Amina Sambo, on Tuesday in Abuja, urged Nigerians to pray for their leaders and remain peaceful.
Both women made the call when Mrs Sambo led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa to extend Sallah greetings to the first family.
While receiving her visitors, the First Lady said: “Happy Sallah! my sisters.
“Muslims and Christians are one. I urge that we pray for peace and development because there can be no meaningful development without peace.
“We need to be peaceful. Anger cannot bring good; only peace can bring good to the nation.
“Also, we need to pray for our leaders because that is what the holy books instruct. We need to pray for wisdom for them so that the nation will be led aright”.
The president’s wife wished all Nigerian women a peaceful ‘Sallah’ and appealed that they preach peace in all they do.
She congratulated the wife of the Vice-president on the delivery of her grandchildren.
Earlier, Sambo said they were at the residence to “felicitate and to extend joy to you as the mother of the nation and pray to Allah to bless our leaders, grant them good health, give them knowledge to steer and pilot the affairs of this nation.
“We also pray for peace because peace is the most important thing we need in Nigeria now.
“We pray for sustainable development and safe return of all pilgrims who went on pilgrimage to the holy lands”. (NAN)
