Kwara United have been saddened by the sudden demise of their former skipper, Sanni Abacha, who died in Ilorin on Thursday at the age of 35.
A source close to the former Super Eagles player’s family revealed Abacha was hale and hearty as at the close of ABS match against Nasarawa United on Wednesday, watching the proceedings from the stands.
He was said to have slumped later in the night and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Ilorin where he was confirmed dead.
“I want to commiserate with all the people Abacha left behind and I pray that God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss,” Kwara United boss Agboola Basambo told supersport.com.
Abacha played for 3SC between 1996 and 1997 league season before switching to Kwara United in 1998. He left the Kwara State-owned team for Enyimba in 2001.
He left Enyimba for Sharks of Port-Harcourt in 2002 and returned to play for the ‘Afonja Warriors’ where he finally decided to hang his boot.
Following retirement, he had lived in Ilorin before his untimely death.
