The Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to a popularity contest by mobilizing Lagosians against Governor Babatunde Fashola if they can.

Lagos PDP had in a statement on Monday signed by its publicity secretary, Taofik Gani asked Governor Babatunde Fashola to declare his assets just as it alleged that Fashola owned substantial shares in the newly commissioned N30 billion Intercontinental Hotel at Victoria Island.

But the ruling party, APC’s interim publicity secretary, Joe Igbokwe said if the opposition party attempts to mobilize Lagosians against Fashola, there is no doubt the people of Lagos will surely meet them on the streets.

In a press statement on Wednesday signed by Mr. Igbokwe, APC said it is the height of irresponsibility for PDP to engage in disingenuous lie peddling just because it longs for a political position it can never attain through honest means.

The statement advised Lagosians to treat the state PDP as an unserious bunch of gossips, who have shown no knowledge of governing Lagos besides salivating on how to milk Lagos.

“It is horrifying, indeed, highly alarming that a party should shamelessly engage in such dubious, irresponsible and callous peddling of puerile lies for the dubious profit it aims to harvest from this. The ownership of Intercontinental Hotel is The Milan Group, which is a reputable company with long history of doing business and a verifiable company and ownership structure.”

The statement further explained that the hotel, which is the tallest in the country, attracted some support from the Lagos State Government and Wema Bank and wondered how it translates to Fashola owning 60 per cent of the hotel.

The party warned PDP that nothing will save it from final extinction as it has nothing to offer Nigerians after 14 years in power.
