Kogi Deputy Governor, Mr Yomi Awoniyi, on Monday urged Nigerians to be more patriotic and to have faith in one united Nigeria.
Awoniyi made the call in a press statement signed by his Press Secretary, Mr Michael Abu, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja.
The statement quotes Awoniyi as felicitating with Nigerians on the country’s 53rd independence anniversary.
It also quotes the deputy governor as urging Nigerians to exhibit more patriotism and solidarity to the nation and to renew their faith in the ability of their leaders to positively turn around the fortunes of the country.
Awoniyi, according to the statement, also urges Nigerians not to be discouraged by sentiments that promote ethnic and religious bigotry, but to ensure national cohesion.
Describing Nigeria as a country blessed by God, Awoniyi in the statement pleaded with Nigerians to get involved in things that strengthen the unity of the country.
He commended Gov Idris Wada for bringing hope to the state despite its diversity as a ‘mini Nigeria’ and urged the people of the state to renew their faith in Gov. Wada administration, and to pray for the country and its leaders, the statement added. (NAN)
