Ogenyi Onazi Scores as Lazio Salvages a Point at Trabzonspor.

Ogenyi Onazi netted the opening goal for Serie A outfit, Lazio, who were on a trip to Turkey against Trabzonspor as the Europa League entered Matchday two Thursday night.

The Super Eagles midfielder helped the visitors gain a footing, in a contest which the early stages was dictated by the Super Lig club, netting a first-half goal to reduce a two-goal deficit.

Trabzonspor were up by two goals through Yusuf Erdogan and Adrian Merzejewski getting to the half-hour mark before the Nigerian rang a wake-up call to his floundering teammates.

Following a good passing move, Bryan Perea’s ball invited Onazi to dart into the box and shoot home a composed finish past the onrushing Onur Kivrak in the half-hour mark.

Trabzonspor increased the two-goal cushion when Paulo Henrique whizzed into the box to collect Merzejewski’s pass before beating Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

Onazi almost scored a brace in the 57th minute when his rasping effort from outside the area was comfortably saved by Kivrak.

With scores set at 3-1 and the hosts were almost running away with victory with six minutes left, Lazio’s substitute Sergio Flocarri scored a brace in two minute to help share the spoils for both sides amid a heavy downpour at the Huseyin Avni Aker Stadium.

The draw leaves the sides level on four points at the top of the Group standings. Onazi’s compatriot Godfrey Obaobona was not listed by Trabzonspor.
