Osun Monarch Knows Fate On R*pe Case Tomorrow

Justice Oyejide Falola will deliver the final judgement tomorrow in the case against Alowa of Ilowa-Ijesa in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Adebukola Alli who has been standing trial for allegedly r*ping an ex-Youth Corps member, Miss Hellen Okpara who served in his domain in 2010.

The judgment will be delivered at a High Court sitting in Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state where the judge was recently transferred.

Counsel to the accused, Taofeek Tewogbade, had at the last sitting applied for an extension of time to enable him convince the court that the traditional ruler was not guilty of the alleged offence, notwithstanding his confession that he made love to his victim. The case has been in court for three years, with several postponements delaying conclusion.

Justice Falola had been transferred from the state High Court in Osogbo to Ikirun after resuming from his annual leave.

The traditional ruler had told the court that Okpara was his lover and that they made consensual love, and had pleaded not guilty to the one count of r*pe pressed against him.

If found guilty, Alli could face up to seven years imprisonment.
