A butcher has turned himself into police, saying he acted in self-defence when he expertly sliced up his brother and stored his body parts in a freezer for a year.
Aurele Almanza, 48, from the Spanish island of Mallorca, has told local police he kept his brother Osmas, 52, stored in the freezer for 12 months.
Mr Almanza allegedly told police he killed his brother in self-defence when Osmas attacked him with a hammer during a fight.
The crime went undetected for a year before Mr Almanza was overcome with guilt and turned himself in to police.
Police visiting Mr Almanza’s house found most of his older brother’s body stored in a chest freezer, while his head was stored in the kitchen freezer near fresh food.
Mr Almanza has reportedly told police he offered Osmas a place to stay when his brother fell on hard times, but the pair argued frequently.
Mr Almanza maintains he acted in self-defence, but the thought of his brother’s body in the freezer haunted him for months before he turned himself in.
