Nigeria’s national wheelchair basketball team got off to a winning start in the race for the 2014 Wheelchair Basketball Championship.
Nigeria beat host nation Angola 42-39 in their first match of the Africa qualifying round campaign played at the Cidadela Desportiva Gymnasium, Luanda on Saturday.
According to afrobasket.com, Nigeria’s ambassador to Angola, Folorunsho Otukoya, and many other countrymen in the oil-rich nation were on hand to render support to their nation.
In the other game in the six round-robin championship Africa champion, South Africa defeated Egypt by 48-45 points while Algeria beat Morocco by 63-44 points.
Day 2 fixtures, which were concluded on Sunday, had Nigeria against South Africa, Egypt versus Morocco and Algeria against Angola.
Meanwhile the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) has announced that the 2014 IWBF Men’s World Championship billed for Incheon, South Korea, has been rescheduled for July 3-15, 2014.
Maureen Orchard, President and Secretary General of the IWBF said the change in dates was made in cooperation with the host country to address the needs of the tournament.
