Youth Group Calls On Buhari, Tinubu, Others’ Support For National Confab

tinubu-buhariA youth group has urged All Progressives Congress, APC, national leaders – a former Head of State and three-time presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to support the proposed national conference by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The youth, under the auspice of Nigerian Youth League (NYL) also called on the leading socio-ethnic political groups in the country such as the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Afenifere and Ohanaeze Ndigbo as well as other well-meaning Nigerians, to join hands with the Sen. Femi Okurounmu-led Presidential Advisory Committee on National Conference to find lasting solutions to the country’s problems so as to be adjudged as selfless leaders in future.

NYL’s Secretary General, Prince Oluwaseyi Olusa said in a statement that the group “condemns any moves from any quarters at politicizing this much needed dialogue at this critical juncture in our national existence where the threats from within and without are raising questions about our continued existence as a nation whilst raising our own confidence that our leaders will come together to iron out their differences in a convivial and patriotic manner”.

NYL also hailed Mr. Jonathan “for taking this bold step at addressing the ever present need for a holistic discussion to be held amongst the stakeholders in the country in the form of a National Conference towards fostering National dialogue as we approach the centenary celebration.”

The statement added, “The confab should be seen by all ethnic groups as an opportunity to foster national unity as opposed to being used as an avenue to ferment national discord. The former will breed accelerated growth and development whilst the latter only creates further distrust amongst our ranks as citizens of this potentially great nation”.
