Asumnu May Not Run for Nigeria Again

Gloria Asumnu has indicated her shot spell with Team Nigeria might be drawing to a close after the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) served her a six-month suspension notice for refusing to run the 4×100m relay at the Moscow World Championships in August.

The United States of America (USA)-born and bred athlete told Sports Vanguard in a chat she is preparing her own response to the suspension notice.

“The suspension is only for 6 months. Starting in August it ends at the end of January,” said Asumnu.

“I will be sending in my letter of response. No worries though; You’ll see me on the track again in other competitions maybe not in Nigeria.”

Among the 28-year-old athletes’ achievement while competing for Nigeria includes winning gold in the 4×100m relay at the All-Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique, in 2011 and a Bronze medal in the 100m in Porto Novo, Benin, last year.
