Athletics: Foreign Coach Appointment Delights Nigerian Coaches Abroad.

Some Nigerian coaches abroad have lauded the efforts of the National Sports Commission (NSC) towards improving the fortunes of Nigerian athletics following the appointment of two American coaches to help develop the nation’s track and field.

The NSC, in line with the revival efforts of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) had announced the appointment of Angie Stone and Eric Campbell to help improve Nigeria’s podium appearance at the Rio 2016 Olympics and beyond.

Coach Taiwo Ariyo, who has long been acquainted with the experienced Campbell after working alongside the American in Saudi Arabia, noted that his appointment is a “step” in “the right direction”.

“I think it is a right step in the right direction,” said Ariyo. “Considering the fact that the ministry is thinking about track and field development, this is a new beginning. Eric is a good manager that could help us both home and abroad.

“I see the positive side of the new thing happen and how it’s been done in other places. Change is the constant thing, but we might get opposition from people because it’s a new thing.”
