Atiku Expresses Outrage At Senseless Maiduguri Killings, Condoles With Victims Of Uke Vigil Tragedy

Atiku-AbubakarThe incessant killing of innocent Nigerians by bandits suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect has been condemned in very strong terms by former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement issued yesterday by his media office in Abuja, the former vice president expressed profound outrage “at the senseless and incessant killings of innocent people by bandits”.

Atiku was reacting to Wednesday’s gruesome killing of over thirty members of a wedding party, including the groom, who were returning from Michika in Adamawa State to Maiduguri, Borno State.

According to the former Vice President, the present level of carnage and wanton destruction of life by callous and devilish criminal gangs should be embarrassing to all Nigerians.

He wondered how killing innocent people could bring happiness or relief to any normal human being, saying all the religions of the world preach about the sanctity of life and that there was no justification for taking the life of even one innocent person.

While condoling with the families of those killed by the bandits in Maiduguri, Atiku also called for increased vigilance among members of the communities infested by bandits in the North-east region of the country.

In the same vein, the former Vice President has also extended his condolence to the families of those killed during a Church vigil at Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

He expressed regrets that such a tragedy would befall persons, who had taken out time to commune with their God and called for a probe into the incident to avoid acrimony in the state.

While expressing his condolences to families of the victims, the people and government of Anambra state and the Catholic Church over the tragedy, Atiku prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead and comfort to their families to bear this great loss.
