The pill responsible for reinvigorating the sex lives of thousands could also help give a young boy a chance at a normal life.

Jose Serrano, 10, of Juarez, Mexico has an enormous tumorĀ on his neck that stretches across his chest, inhibits his movement and threatens his life.

The Daily Mail reports that an important part of Serranoā€™s treatment is taking Viagra, which has been shown to reduce the size of tumors in children. The drug is most commonly prescribed to treat impotence.

The goal is to get the tumor down to a size at which it can be safely operated on and removed. Time is of the essence because the growth forms cysts, some of which are on his lungs and close to his windpipe, the Daily Mail reports.

Serranoā€™s story is told in a new British show onĀ TLC called ā€œBody Bizarre.ā€

In September, Albuquerque, N.M. stationĀ KOAT did a storyĀ on Serrano, who travels to New Mexico for treatment at the University of New Mexico hospital. His parents get help paying for his care from a Baptist church in Rio Rancho, N.M.

So far, the treatment has noticeably shrunk the tumor.

ā€œWords canā€™t express how grateful we are to the people who have helped us,ā€ Serranoā€™s mother, Cindy said, according to the Daily Mail. ā€œItā€™s surreal. It feels like a dream come true.ā€

Serrano said he looks forward to a day when his tumor is finally gone.

ā€œIf the doctors can cure me I will be so happy,ā€ he said. ā€œI would be thrilled. I would be healthy and Iā€™d be able to do anything I want.ā€
