FIFA will await the official report from Croatia’s World Cup playoff victory over Iceland before deciding whether to issue disciplinary charges after claims of pro-Nazi chants.
Footage shows Croatia defender Josip Simunic rallying fans over a microphone after the 2-0 win by shouting “for the homeland”- the fans responded “ready”.
The chant appears to originate from the Ustashas, the Croatian pro-Nazi regime that ruled during World War 2.
However the player at the centre-stage, Simunic, is confident he has “done nothing wrong”
“Some people have to learn some history. I’m not afraid,” he added.
“I’m supporting my Croatia, my homeland. If someone has something against it, that’s their problem.”
