Serie A: Torino Taints Roma’s Perfect Start With a Deserved Draw.

Torino ended AS Roma’s 100% start to the Serie A on Sunday after both sides played a 1-1 draw at the Olimpico di Torino.

Dutchman Kevin Strootman pulled the visitors ahead in the first-half with a close range finish.

Torino’s top scorer Alessio Cerci became just the second player to score against Roma this season when his second-half strike earned a deserved point for the hosts.

Roma became the first team to win the opening ten matches of a Serie a season when they edged Chievo 1-0 last Thursday.

Despite Napoli and Juventus keeping up the pressure on Roma with wins over Catania and Palma respectively on Saturday, the Naples side leads the log by a three-point margin.

However, Roma dominated the first-half of Sunday’s draw against Torino, who has not recorded victory in their previous six league matches.

But without the injured Fransesco Totti and Gervinho, they lacked the firepower up front that has been a major attribute of  their coach since the start of the season.

They got in the ascendancy in the 28th minute when Strootman calmly stroked the ball past goalkeeper Daniele Padeli from 10 yards from a Miralem Pjanic’s low cross.

Both teams proceeded into the interval with the visitors looking to keep their untainted start to the season intact. Nevertheless the absence of their suspended defender Leandro Castan looked to have left a gap in their defence.

Torino took advantage of some defensive frailties to level up scores when Cerci flicked Riccardo Meggiorini’s cross into the net for his eighth goal of the season on 63 minutes.

Roma struggled to grab a winning goal in the closing stages of the match but couldn’t create many clear-cut chances as both sides eventually shared the spoils.

Earlier on Sunday, Andrea Ranocchia became the first Italian to score for Inter Milan this season as they beat Udinese 3-0.

Argentine Rodrigo Palacio had put Inter ahead, before Ranocchia volleyed in with just under half an hour gone. Riccardo Alvarez completed scoring in stoppage time.

Inter sits in the fourth place of the Serie A standing, six points adrift third-placed Juventus.
