Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has agreed to extend his current contract for three more seasons until June 2018, says club president Sandro Rosell.
The new contract agreement is believed to also include an option for further extension.
“The FC Barcelona president (Sandro Rosell) has confirmed that Andres Iniesta, who was on contract until 2015, will now be staying at FCB until June 30, 2018,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
Iniesta, 29, came up through Barcelona’s youth teams and has helped it win three Champions League titles and six Spanish La Ligas.
“In 479 official appearances, Iniesta has won 21 trophies at the club,” the statement added.
Rosell, who also revealed the Spain international is expected to put pen to put pen to paper on Monday, himself was delighted to retain one of the club’s star performers.
“We are very, very happy,” he said.
“I think this is a great Christmas gift for all Barcelona fans.”
Iniesta had recently been linked with a move to Manchester United.
