Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko wants to reclaim the WBC title formerly held by his brother Vitali, who recently told the WBC Supreme Council he will not be able to provide a predictable time frame to return to the ring.
Briton Lennox Lewis was the last undisputed heavyweight boxer in 2000, as the Klitschko brothers chose not to fight each other.
Wladimir presently holds the WBA, IBF, WBO and the IBO titles and does not plan to relinquish any of them.
“It is of course my goal to bring the WBC title back to the Klitschko family,” the youngest of the Klitschko brothers told BILD.
Vitali (44-2, 40 KOs) is running for the Presidency of the Ukraine in the 2015 election. The Board Meeting of the WBC led by Jose Sulaiman recently decided to name him WBC World Champion Emeritus, after it was revealed he won’t be defending his belt against the mandatory contender Bermane Stiverne.
However, Wladimir has to first make mandatory defences of his WBO and IBF titles against Alex Leapai and Kubrat Pulev before probably in September next year, taking aim at whoever holds the WBC belt.
