Turkish Champions Galatasaray clinched a Champions League last sixteen berth by edging out Juventus in Wednesday’s rescheduled fixture at the Turk Telekom Arena in Istanbul.
Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder settled scores with his 85th minute effort on his return from injury. He latched onto Didier Drogba’s flick to finish low into the net as they completed Tuesday’s abandoned tie.
The match was suspended because of heavy Istanbul snow that defaced the stadium pitch lines.
The Turin-based visitors needed only a point to reach the last 16, while the host were out for an all-important victory.
It was restarted on 32 minutes and both sides struggled to create clear-cut goalscoring chances- with the snow still falling- until Sneijder met Drogba’s towering flicked header late on.
Roberto Mancini’s side now joins Real Madrid, who had already grabbed their second round ticket with a convincing victory over Danish champions Copenhagen, for the first time in three seasons.
The Serie A leaders now have to settle for a place in the Europa League after finishing third in the group.
