President Goodluck Jonathan has written to the Senate seeking its confirmation of Chief Eze Duruiheoma as chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC).
The seat was left vacant following the presidential query issued former NPC boss, Chief Festus Odimegwu for his unguarded utterances in the media which seemed to discredit previous population censuses. He resigned finally from the position on October 17, 2013.
In a letter addressed to Senate President David Mark, dated November 27, 2013, the President said, “I have therefore in the exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 154(1) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria decided to appoint Chief Eze Duruiheoma -chairman, Aliyu Daniel Kwali, FCT, Alhaji Bala Almu Banye, Katsina and Adebola Adetumbi – Ekiti as chairman and members of the National Population Commission”.
Mr. Duruiheoma is the ex-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
