Wenger Says the Gunners Want Cabaye No More.

Arsene Wenger says he will not be making another move for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye because his side is well fortified with midfield options.

France international, Cabaye, 27, was the subject of a £10m summer bid from the Gunners, which Newcastle rejected because it was below the Magpies’s evaluation of the striker.

Wenger said: “On Yohan Cabaye, we don’t look for a midfielder.

Wenger eventually sealed a deal with Real Madrid on the summer transfer deadline day for the services of Mesut Ozil- breaking the club record for transfers- who has gone on to become an instant hit at the Emirate stadium.

The German midfielder missed Sunday’s trip to St. James’ Park and could be out of New Year Day’s home game against managerless Cardiff City, joining another midfielder Aaron Ramsey on the injury list.

Wenger, however, insists his side fared well even without the duo in Sunday afternoon’s 2-1 win over Newcastle.

“We didn’t have Mesut Ozil or Aaron Ramsey and we still had three good midfielders and Mikel Arteta on the bench,” he said.

Another Frenchman Olivier Giroud broke the deadlock in the 65th minute as the hosts put up a resilient display. The goal helped Arsenal return to the top of the league standing.

Wenger praised the balance that the striker brings to his side, saying: “He gives us a good structure up front as we are a short team.

“We believe in ourselves and we are determined to give our best absolutely and to turn back on this season at the end and think we have given our best. I hope it will be enough but it’s a long way to go.”
