Youths Storm Court Premises To Protest Spate Of Politically-motivated Killings In Ekiti

Youths under the aegis of Ekiti Vibrant Youths, yesterday protested at the premises of an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court against the spate of politically-motivated killings in the state in recent times as suspects in the murder of one Foluso Ogundare were arraigned before the court.

A member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Boluwade Kehinde, was among the nine docked before the court over Ogundare’s murder in Emure-Ekiti on November 3, 2013.

The suspects who faced a five-count charge, were brought before Chief Magistrate Soji Adegboye.

They were accused of conspiracy, murder and causing the death of Ogundare and thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012 among others.

The prosecutor, Samson Oshbu, said the accused committed a serious offence, but pleaded for a date for the hearing of the matter pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

Ademola Okeya who appeared for the accused persons said they were not opposing the application of the counsel in the matter, while Rotimi Adabembe and others stood in for the relatives of the deceased.

The accused persons are Kehinde, Ilesanmi Peter, Adedayo Kayode, Afolabi Ishola, Babalola Olomi, Malomo Alabi, Taidi Yinusa, Ayo Famojuro and Olawumi Fagborila.

Adegboye adjourned the matter till January 10, 2014 for hearing, ordering the accused persons to be remanded in prison until then.
