As build up to the 2014 governorship elections in Osun State gathers momentum, about 200 members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ifon, Orolu Local Government Area of the state have defected to All Peoples Congress.
At a colorful ceremony which held at the party secretariat, Osogbo, the state capital to welcome the defectors into the ruling party in the state, APC chieftains led by its Acting Chairman, Elder Adelowo Adebiyi urged the defectors not to involve in any obnoxious act that can tarnish their image before and after the elections.
The APC boss also warned the new members to abide by the rules and regulations of the party and advised them to be loyal and ready to work for the victory of the party in the forthcoming elections.
APC Deputy Treasurer in Osun, Prince Adekunle Benson, who introduced the defectors, said that their action was well conceived ahead of elections in the state; an indication that they are very ready to work for the development of the party and its victory.
He also promised them that “nobody will be marginalized because we are one in the progressive camp”, adding that their defection signaled the end of PDP in entire Orolu land and even in the state.
But the Director of Media and Strategy for Osun PDP, Prince Diran Odeyemi dismissed the purported defection of its members as a ruse, insisting that the party is intact in the state and ready for the forthcoming governorship election.
He said that elections transcend beyond defection of party members and that Osun PDP is busy strategizing on how to defeat Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
