CAF- National League in CHAN Host Country Will Be Suspended Throughout Tournament.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that league competitions in the host countries of the African Nation Championship (CHAN) will be suspended pending the duration of the tournament, with effect from the 2014 tournament.

The rule is meant to ensure that local football federation and fans in such countries concentrate on the CHAN tournament.

CAF general secretary, Hicham El Aurouni, told the news media it was imperative the league in the host country be suspended for the duration of the three-week fiesta, while also admitting it would be hard for the continental football’s ruling body to halt all national leagues in Africa for the tournament.

Also any club that refuses to release any player for Africa’s second largest football showpiece will be suspended by their various indigenous federation according to another more pressing CAF directive.

World football’s governing body, FIFA, recently endorsed the tournament to be considered for their monthly rankings, making the tournament a hot cake for various national teams.
