Kano Pillars’ Rabiu Ali has said Nigeria remain in contention for a place in the knockout stage of the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) despite losing their opening group match to Mali.
The Super Eagles team B will face Mozambique on Wednesday in their second group game of the tournament and the midfielder, who played the whole 90 minutes in Saturday’s loss, admits anything short of a win could rule them out.
He who wouldn’t want to dwell much on the Mali game but says Nigeria will do everything possible to bounce back immediately.
“It was not the kind of start we hoped for (against Mali) in this competition,” Ali told supersport.com. “I don’t know what happened to us but now we have to do better than what we did on Saturday in our next game.”
“The match against Mozambique is one we must win. Now we have no choice than to win that game.”
Nigeria currently occupies the third place on Group A standing behind hosts South Africa and Mali.
