An 85-year-old man, Chief Young Norbert Okafor, was Friday rescued from kidnappers by the police, who also shot dead three suspected kidnappers attempting to collect a N850, 000 ransom from relations of the victim, having earlier demanded for N16 million.

Delta Police Command acting spokesman, DSP Charles Muka who confirmed the incident said the victim was kidnapped on his way to church at 5.30 am as he made to leave his compound in his ash coloured Mercedes Benz salon car with registration number, BF 499 KTU, in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South L.G.A of the state.

Muka said the victim was taken to a bush between Ogwashi-Uku and Issele Azagba by a five-man gang.

Muka said the gang was ambushed as they tried to collect the ransom from a burrow pit along Ogwashi-Uku/Issele Azagba road.

He identified the deceased kidnappers as gang leader Eze Ogugua, 21 years old, Onyema Ahijo Biggy, alias 100, 24 years, and Lucky Onochie, 24 who works as an Interior Decorator.

The gang leader, according to Muka, is a relation of the victim who said he was angry at the victim because he placed a curse on his family.

Muka, who said efforts are on to arrest the two other confessed suspects, warned that the police will not hesitate to deal with criminals who take the laws into their hands.
