The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Mukhtari Shagari said on Wednesday in Kaduna that despite the protracted crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which his boss, Governor Aliyu Wamakko to defect to the All Progressives Congress, the PDP still remained the party to beat in 2015.

Wamakko had defected to the APC alongside his Rivers, Kano, Kwara and Adamawa States counterparts Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Abdulfatah Ahmed and Murtala Nyako, respectively.

However, Shagari, who has refused to join Wamakko in his defection to the opposition party, stressed that he remained a member of the PDP.

The deputy governor, who led a 25-man delegation to Kaduna to confer with the Vice President, Namadi Sambo on the situation of the party in the state, also pledged his unalloyed loyalty to President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Working Committee of the party.

Shagari, a former Water Resources Minister during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, told reporters shortly after the meeting with the Vice President at the late Gen. Hassan Katsina House, Kawo, Kaduna on Wednesday, that the party in the state had resolved to ensure the unity of members in the state.
