100 cases of rape were recorded in courts in Kano State between November and December last year.

The state Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Maliki Kuliya Umar, who disclosed this said that more than 40 offenders have so far been convicted and are currently serving prison terms.

Speaking to reporters on Monday in Kano, Maliki said the cases reached that number because people were now familiar with reporting such cases to police, unlike before when the victims’ parents or guardians remained mute for stigmatization reasons.
