Manchester United have made a £22.5m bid for Southampton defender Luke Shaw, according to the Daily Mirror.
David Moyes, who was spotted alongside Phil Neville watching Bayern Munich’s visit to Borrusia Monchegladbach on Friday, is keen on improving his team before the close of the January transfer window, and looks to be on the verge of making another big splash of cash, following the proposed record signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea.
They will nevertheless come against stiff competition from the Stamford Bridge club, who are willing to pay £21m for the England international- reportedly a huge supporter of the Blues.
However, Moyes reportedly hoped to lure the 18-year-old to Manchester with a starting role from the beginning as well as a ‘lucrative’ contract offer.
The move, necessitated by the need to shore up United’s leaky defence, could as well bring to an end Patrice Evra’s stay at Old Trafford sooner than later.
