The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Nasarawa State chapter, on Thursday, announced the suspension of the indefinite strike it declared over the alleged failure by government to address workers’ welfare issues.
A statement signed by Messrs Sule Odeh-Usman and Jacob Makama, chairman and secretary of the NLC’s joint negotiating team and Mr Dominic Bako, the state’s Head of Service, said the suspension followed an agreement reached on Wednesday, after NLC met with the state government.
The statement added that government had agreed to implement workers’ demands, especially with respect to prompt promotion from Jan. 2014.
It added that all pending annual increments due to workers would be processed and paid immediately.
Meanwhile, a nine-man committee, chaired by Hamza Ilayo, the Commissioner of Information, has been set up to workout modalities for the implementation of the agreement reached.
A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who visited some government offices in Lafia, on Thursday, observed that workers had reported to their offices and were busy with their normal duties.
NAN reports that the strike, which was started on Monday, lasted three days.
