Tragedy struck in Ondo State on New Year’s day, as a 13 year-old boy, Ibitayo Samson, was clubbed to death with pestle over an argument on roasting of a goat for the celebration.
According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred in the early hours of the new year in Aje Quarters, Okeagbe Akoko area of the state.
The mother of the deceased Ibitayo Oluwatoyin, a member of Cherubim&Seraphim church was said to have reported the incident at the Police Station.
Mrs Ibitayo was said to have told the police that her son was murdered by one Oladejo Iskilu, 24, of Aje Quarters Okeagbe Akoko, over an argument on the owner of a tyre for roasting of the new year goat.
Sources say the deceased was attacked with a pestle while they were arguing on who owns the tyre.
“Abusive words were exchanged by the two boys before the suspect ran into the house and came out to attack the deceased,” a source said.
Eyewitnesses say the deceased was rushed to a private hospital in the town, after sustaining serious injuries on the head, He died the following morning.
Confirming the death Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Wole Ogodo said that the suspect has been arrested and is in detention.
He added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, for further investigation.
