Pillars Confirm Baleria as New Coach.

Kano Pillars have confirmed the appointment of Kabiru Baleria as the Glo Premier League champions’ new technical adviser.

Baleria, 44, succeeds Mohammed Baba Ganaru, who led the ‘Sai Masu Gida’ to two successive league titles before leaving for Nasarawa United during the off-season.

The club’s board of directors finally agreed to gamble on Baleria for the upcoming season following a meeting, which took place on Thursday. He will take over from interim coach, Abdul Maikaba, who is now going to work as chief coach.

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions begin their pre-season campaign in the Super Four tournament today (Friday) against Warri Wolves.

Baleria will also lead the Kano State-owned team to the 2013/14 Orange Caf Champions League, where they are due to visit AS Vita of the DR Congo in the first qualifying rounds on February 7.

“The management has considered lots of things before reaching these conclusions. We have limited time to prepare for the Caf Champions League and we don’t want to leave anything to chance,” club’s media officer Idris Malikawa was quoted as saying on Sporting Life.

They had hoped to employ an experienced coach, but have not been able to come to terms with one, before handing Baleria the job.

“We don’t want that (getting a new and experienced hand for the club) to distract the club’s programmes,” Malikawa added.

Pillars’ board also appealed to the State government for approval of their decision.
