Serena Beats Azarenka to Retain Brisbane Title.

World number one Serena Williams defeated Belarusian, Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 7-5 to retain her Brisbane International title.

The victory saw the 32-year-old American increase dominance in career head-to-head meetings with second seed Azarenka to 14-3.

In what was a repeat of the 2013 US Open final, Williams, who won 11 tournaments same year, lost her serve twice in the decider but broke back three times to triumph in one hour and 38 minutes.

The American will look to take the momentum into the Australian Open, where she would be hoping to win her sixth title in Melbourne, starting on January 13.

Her straight sets victory over 24-year-old Azarenka on Saturday ensured she finished her title defense without dropping a set.

Elsewhere, Serena’s sister Venus Williams, seeking her first title for more than a year, lost 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to Ana Ivanovic in the final of the ABS Classis in Aukland.
