Lleyton Hewitt claimed the 2014 Brisbane International- his seventh ATP World Tour title- in front of a partisan home crowd with a three-set victory over top seed Roger Federer.
The 32-year-old home favourite beat the Swiss former world number one 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to clinch his first title since 2010.
Federer, 32, was broken three times in the first set but fought back to level up in the second.
The 60th-ranked Hewitt saved seven break points to win the decider.
The Brisbane international is the warm-up tournament for the Australian Open which bats starts on January 13.
This win “gives me a lot of confidence” heading into Melbourne, says Hewitt.
