A woman secretly cancelled her brother’s wedding – because she did not like the bride-to-be.

Scheming Ann Duffy, 50, posed as Sandra Hardy to contact a register office and call off the big day.

She phoned brother David Greatrex, 52, that day and told him: “I have saved you on the divorce. I have cancelled your wedding.”

When Sandra found out, the furious 28-year-old called police and Duffy ended up in court.

Roger Page, defending, told magistrates she did not like Sandra because of “friction” over the care of her and David’s mother.

He said: “The defendant still takes the view her brother is not suited to his wife. To avoid him making what she regarded as a disastrous move she cancelled the wedding.”

Duffy, of Plymouth, called off the big day on November 5 last year.

Self-employed David had been due to wed shop worker Sandra on November 20. The couple managed to rebook and save the wedding.

Duffy admitted harassment and will be sentenced next month.

Prosecutor Will Warden told Plymouth magistrates: “One offence doesn’t constitute harassment. There were other incidents reported which is why the charge was brought.”

Duffy wrote on Facebook today: “My family know the truth.”
