APC Ready To Take Nigeria Out Of The Woods, Says Rep Member

APC-Logo1The lawmaker representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dakuku Peterside, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) is ready to lead Nigeria out of the woods.

Dakuku spoke at unit 5, Ward 3 at Opobo Town, Rivers State after he formally registered as a member of the APC at the weekend.

Peterside, a close ally of Governor Rotimi Amaechi, is one of the 37 members of the lower chamber, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC last year.

Former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Sam Jaja, also registered at Ward 7, Opobo Town.

A statement by the lawmaker quoted him as saying the ruling PDP has let the country down.

He said: “APC is ready to lead us out of the woods and we will be doing a great service to our country and the future generation by joining this great party”.

He added that the APC would make the much-needed difference.

Dakuku said: “One of the hallmarks of democracy is the peoples’ right to join any political party of their choice as well as freedom of expression. This right guaranteed by our constitution is being trampled upon daily under the watch of the infamous Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. PDP’s determination to destroy democracy seems irreversible and nowhere is this more evident than my home state, Rivers.

“It is thus clear that history beckons as the All Progressives Congress, APC continues its registration exercise nation-wide. In many ways, this long awaited process also brings to a touching distance our shared hopes and aspirations as a group for a country built on the rule of law, fairness, equity and justice.

“But as we register, we must remind ourselves that again, Nigerians have found themselves at crossroads. Travelling this familiar road again unfortunately stems from our inability to learn from the past and its tragic consequences. But this must not happen again! APC is therefore here to halt this drift and save our country.

“In a way, I am tempted to liken this APC revolution sweeping across Nigeria to the courage and patriotism of members of the G34, a group of statesmen led by Dr. Alex Ekwueme who challenged the military and provided the building blocks that eventually ushered in this political dispensation in 1999. Unfortunately, those who inherited the party formed from the ashes of the G 34 mismanaged the goodwill of Nigerians and plunged us into this hopelessness.

“Today, Nigerians are again at the threshold of history. We have inadvertently pushed further, those worrying dividing lines that have never really done our nation any good. Sadly, these differences are unnecessarily overemphasised in this season of politics because of the inordinate ambitions of a few of us who are bent on pulling down this house”.

Peterside, who is Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), said the deluge of Rivers people into the APC is driven by the need to protect their natural resources being allegedly taken away by the Federal Government and given to other states.
