Athletes Adviced to Get Licensed to Participate in AFN Competitions.

The technical adviser of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, has advised athletes to register with the federation to be eligible to participate in its competitions.

Nesiama, who spoke in an interview in Lagos, urged clubs and states to register their athletes in line with the federation’s regulation.

“Only athletes registered with the federation can compete in the 2014 season.

“All active athletes in the country who wish to participate in our competitions will have to be licensed and must carry their AFN identity card.

“Some states and clubs have complied with the registration, while others have yet to and I can only urge those who have not to please do that soon,” he said.

The federation’s athletes have already completed the first and second phases of camping in Abuja with the long distance athletes camping in Jos.

The AFN had on Feb. 4, unveiled its programmes for the year to herald its activities.

It also unveiled its High Performance Centre Director, Angie Taylor and High performance Coach, Eric Campbell both former athletes of the U.S.

The AFN begins its competitions for the year with its open in Ijebu-Ode on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15.
