The DSTV Premier Basketball League (PBL) and the Zenith Women League will begin in February and March respectively, the Nigeria basketball Federation (NBBF) has announced.
This is as contained in a statement released by the Secretariat of the NBBF at the end of its 4-dayu stakeholders forum and pre-season seminar held in Abuja.
President, Tijjani Umar, says the men’s DSTV PBL begins on February 28 in Lagos while the Zenith Bank women’s league is slated to dunk off on March 19- beginning with its first phase as it has retained its usual phases format.
A total of sixty-one referees will take part in a pre-season exercise, which includes physical drills and examination to determine their readiness ahead the jump-ball date while thirty-nine technical officials also wrote examination conducted by trio of Nigeria FIBA graded referees, Babatunde Popoola, Olayinka Famogbiyele and Kingsley Ojeaburu.
The NBBF also confirm the relegation of Comets basketball club from the Atlantic conference and Yelwa Hawks basketball club from the Savannah conference of the DStv league and promoted Kwara Falcons basketball club of Ilorin and Gombe Bulls basketball club respectively.
The DStv league still retain it home-away format just as changes was made to the playoff format with four teams qualifying for the final-8 playoff from each of the Atlantic and Savannah conferences of the league.
