Fresh from an impressive campaign at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa,Kano Pillars bank on the expertise of Rabiu Ali and Umar Zango as they take on AS Vita.
Two members of the Super Eagles squad that came third in the just-concluded CHAN tournament, Zango and Ali, have traveled with their Nigerian clubside to the DR Congo, where they’ll face AS Vita in the Orange CAF Champions League preliminary round.
The reigning Glo Premier League champions will be up against last season’s runners-up in the DR Congo’s Linafoot at the Stade des Martyrs on Sunday.
Midfielder Shehu Abdullahi, who also featured in the 2014 CHAN tournament, sat out of the flight to Kinshasa because he couldn’t secure a visa to the DR Congo, but striker Gambo Mohammed and Kabiru Umar are named in the 18-man squad.
“We have arrived safely in Kinshasa. The flight was for three hours and we arrived about 11.30pm, which is the same time with Nigeria,”Pillars spokesman Idris Malikawa informed MTNFootball.com.
The team will have their first training on Friday afternoon “by 3:30pm,” Malikawa added. The match kicks off same time on Sunday.
