Kwara APC Kicks As Police Gives PDP Permit To Hold Rally

APC-PDPThe All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has described the permit allegedly granted to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to hold a rally in Ilorin, the state capital today (Sunday) as unconstitutional.

The ruling APC in a statement signed by its interim publicity secretary in the state, Alhaji Suleman Buhari, said while it was unconcerned about the activities of the PDP in the state, it was concerned about the rule of law and its maintenance.

The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party rally scheduled for Sunday, February 23 at the Lower Niger River Basin in Ilorin.

“Why the activities of the PDP are not our concern, we are concerned about the rule of law and its maintenance.

“We are aware of Section 99(1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) which states as follows: ‘For the purpose of this Act, the period of campaigning in public by every political party shall commence 90 days before polling day and end 24 hours prior to that day’. The PDP cannot be an exception and no election in 90 days time in the state. Where did the Police and PDP derive their powers from?” it queried.
