Over a million residents of Lagos State have been registered by the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) to provide demographic data for the government.

It said the registration would also assist in the planning and resource allocation to the population.

According to the agency, the first residents registered would receive their permanent residency cards in June.

LASRRA’s General Manager, Ms Yinka Fashola, who stated this on Tuesday, said the government needed to know the number and demographic distribution of people to enable it plan efficient allocation of infrastructure, such as roads, water transportation, hospitals and schools to improve residents’ quality of lives.

She added that the days of pupils trekking long distances to their schools would soon be over as the government was planning to build facilities close to every neighbourhood.
