Late Lar Our Own Mandela, Says Al-Makura… To Name Street After Him

Solomon-LarGov. Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State on Wednesday said the state government would name one of the streets in Lafia after the first civilian Governor of old Plateau State, late Chief Solomon Lar.

Al-Makura said this while receiving the family and friends of the Lar in Lafia.

Lar, also a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), died last year.

The governor said the need to immortalise Lar was based on his contributions to the development of Plateau and Nasarawa states and humanity.

Al-Makura said the people of the state had enjoyed dividends of democracy under the administration of the late politician.

“Chief Solomon Lar is our own Mandela, his name will be indelible in the minds of the people in the state as he has emancipated us from poverty”, he said.

In her remarks, Lar’s daughter, Mrs Beni Lar, said the delegation was in Lafia to appreciate the state government for the love and support extended to the family.

“Your Excellency, we appreciate the role played by you and the people of the state during the burial of our late father. It is for this reason that we are here today”, she said (NAN)
