John Obi Mikel could leave Chelsea after failing to cement a first team shirt in recent outings, according to UK news tabloid The Mirror.
The midfielder, 26, who has traveled with the Premier League leaders to Istanbul for their UEFA Champions League second round first-leg tie against Galatasaray on Wednesday, has gone down the pecking order at the Stamford Bridge outfit.
He has started just nine league matches in the ongoing campaign as Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho has preferred the likes of Ramires and Frank Lampard ahead of him while the returning Nemanja Matic has also reduce the Nigerian’s chances of featuring for the ‘Blues’.
Reports from Italian media Gazzetta dello Sport says Mikel is being lined up by Inter Milan for a £12.3m move to the San Siro.
The Nerazzuri- under new owner Erick Thohir– are looking to improve their midfield this summer and make Inter a title contender in the coming season.
Mikel joined Chelsea from Lyn Oslo in 2006 and has notched up a total of 29 appearances this season, scoring his first ever league goal in the 2-0 win against Fulham in September. His second goal of the season came in an FA Cup third round tie with Derby on 5 January 2014.
