New Arsenal Signing Kallstrom Sidelined With a Back Injury.

New Arsenal signing Kim Kallstrom is set for a spell on the sideline with a back injury that was discovered in the medical before he penned down a loan deal from Spartak Moscow.

The 31-year-old Sweden midfielder sustained the problem on Tuesday while playing football on a beach during Spartak’s pre-season tour in Abu Dhabi.

He informed Arsenal of discomfort upon arriving at the London club on Friday but, despite an MRI scan showing no damage, a CT scan found an injury with his back.

Manager Arsene Wenger was provided with the prognosis by the medical team, but it was decided the deal will go on and Kallstrom will undergo rehabilitation with the club.

Kallstrom will miss Arsenal’s next six games against Crystal Palace, Liverpool twice, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Sunderland.

He did not train with his new teammates on Friday and Saturday and will now briefly return to Sweden and Russia before moving to London and beginning a course of treatment.

The 31-year-old is a central midfielder who can also play out wide on the left side of midfield, joined on loan until the end of the season to provide cover for injured Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, plus the suspended Mathieu Flamini.
