The discovery of a list by operatives of the Ebonyi State command of the State Security Service (SSS) purportedly containing the names of top politicians, businessmen, professionals, women and children to be seized by a gang that specializes in kidnapping of influential people in the state, has generated ripples in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The state director of the SSS, Ebonyi State, Mr Laasan Baba, made this known yesterday while parading two suspects nabbed by the command over their alleged involvement in the kidnap of the brother-in-law to the former governor of the state, Hon Kennedy Ogba.
Hon Ogba, the elder brother to former Ebonyi First Lady, Mrs Eunice Ukamaka Egwu, was kidnapped on Friday at his residence, Nsurakpa, Ohaukwu local government area of the state by unknown gunmen at about 5pm while returning from where he went to pick up his children from school.
According to the state director SSS, “Mr. Kennedy Ogba, former chairman, Ohaukwu local government area, a one-time majority leader of Ebonyi State House of Assembly and a brother in-law to the former governor of the state was kidnapped at Nsurakpa village by 3 armed men and we want to inform you that Kennedy Ogba was released yesterday.
“Mr. Ogba was released after the command had arrested the kidnappers when they demanded for N2million ransom and the money was taken to them and in attempt to collect the money, we arrested them and recovered the money”.
