A 14-year-old Idaho boy confessed Monday to the grisly murders of his brother and father on March 24, according to court documents obtained by multiple local media outlets.

Eldon Samuel III allegedly took a .45 caliber pistol hidden underneath a couch at their home in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, and shot his father, Eldon Gail Samuel Jr., 46, in the stomach. Samuel III told investigators his dad often “beat him,” and that he thought his father — who had been taking medication while “talking about zombies” — was coming after him, reports The Spokesman-Review.

According to a police report, the suspect said his father then crawled to another room where his younger brother, Jonathan Samuel, 13, was hiding under a bed. Samuel III told authorities he then shot his father three more times: twice in the cheek and once in the “brain,” per the Coeur D’Alene Press.

Samuel III told authorities he then went after his younger brother, whom he “hated.” He said he shot the younger boy four times after he refused to get out from under the bed, then took a “large knife” and stabbed him several times. When he noticed the younger boy was still alive, the suspect then attacked him with a machete approximately 30 times, writes the CDA Press.

Samuel III called police and confessed to the crimes on Monday, just after 9 p.m., court documents say. Police arrived at the residence and found the suspect standing outside, covered in blood, CBS affiliate KREM reports.

“Eldon did not show any remorse in reference to killing his brother,” Coeur D’Alene police officers stated in court documents, per KREM.

The double-murder has shocked the northern Idaho city.

“This incident is the first of its kind in our 68-year history,” Jeff Conroy, executive director of St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho, the housing development where the family was living, told CDA Press. “We are surprised to learn of the weapons that were used in this crime, as they are prohibited in all our programs.”

Samuel III was charged, as an adult, with two counts of first-degree murder on Tuesday and is currently being held on $1 million bail, Kootenai Sheriff’s Office told The Huffington Post in an email.

Hearings are expected to take place in the next two weeks.
