Electricity Revenue: NERC Sanctions Discos to Disconnect Indebted Govt MDAs

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Wednesday said it has thrown its weight behind moves by the various electricity distribution companies across the country to disconnect certain Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government that are indebted to them.

The commission also hinted that it is proactively working to ensure stable improvement in the supply of gas to thermal power plants following the recent meteorological warning that there could be decrease in the amount of rainfalls and water reservoir of hydro generating plants in the country.

NERC said that the move was part of efforts to boost revenue generation within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) which is now managed by private investors.

It also explained that its authorisation of the processes of disconnecting debtor government MDAs was in line with a presidential directive on same.

  1. What is NERC doing to ensure disco provides pay-as-u-go metres to majority of consumers? Do NERC nt know that nigerians are paying 4 estimated bills up-front? Rt now, disco has distributed Mar 2014 bills. Within 2 deys, d’ll commence disconectn those who hv nt pd Mar bill. Ds is pure exploitation. NERC, we’re, to say d least, helpless particularly wen electricity supply has nt improved. We’re tired of excuses . We want to see remarkable +ve improvements soon. Enough of ds exploitation & deceit 4rm NERC & DISCO.
