Fulani Herdsmen On Rampage In Taraba, Kill 35, Burn Properties Worth Millions

Bodies-of-the-massacred-during-the-attacksSuspected Fulani herdsmen on Sunday killed 35 persons and burnt properties worth millions of naira in an attack on Ikyo, Catholic Church, Agwaza, Kokonbo, Azer, Lijam, Akesa, Tyow Doshima, Tse Saka and Kwaghlando districts in Takum local government area of Taraba State.

The armed men numbering over 70, according to a resident of one of the villages, Hon Peter Kaaov, invaded the villages at about 2pm.

Kaaov, who said he fled with his newly wedded wife to Takum town, further said that over 16 persons were killed by the gunmen in other surrounding villages while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.

He added that the invaders could have been from Benue State, which has also had its own fair share of attacks in the hands of Fulani herdsmen in recent times.

When contacted, the divisional police officer in charge of Takum, DSP Aghogho Akpovwovwo, said he was not in a position to speak to the press.

Meanwhile, the acting governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar yesterday donated relief materials to over 5,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking refuge in different locations in Takum.

The acting governor, who was represented by the state executive secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), decried the way the Fulani herdsmen are terrorizing innocent people, and pleaded with the refugees not to take laws into their hands.

According to Umar, the State government would do everything possible to deploy more security operatives in the affected areas to safeguard them and their properties.

The materials donated by the Taraba government through SEMA were 300 bags of maize, 300 bags of millet, 200 bags of guinea corn, 100 bags of rice, 40 bags of gari, 150 cartons of Indomie Noodles, 20 cartons of toilet soap, 10 bags of sugar, 200 pieces of wax print, 150 pieces of guinea brocade, 150 mats, 100 mattresses,  100 plastic buckets, 200 plastic spoons, 200 plastic cups, 40 cartons of Omo detergent, 300 blankets, toiletries, 200 bags of pure water, among others.

  • It is unfortunate, we lost this promising nigeria you in search for a ghost job. This stampede could has been avoided if only invited candidate are present for the test. I don’t know what a pregnant woman, and a nursing mother in doing at the venue, anyway, may their soul rest in peace.
