Guus Hiddink Set for the Dutch National Team Job After World Cup

Guus Hiddink has been announced to take over the Dutch National team after the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil, replacing Louis van Gaal.

In an announcement made on Friday by the Dutch football association, the KNVB, Hiddink, whose previous spell with the side spanned from 1995 to 1998, is prepared for a second spell and will be assisted by current assistant coach Danny Blind and former Manchester United and Oranje striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

Blind has been with the national team set-up since 2012 as an assistant coach.

“Guus Hiddink, Danny Blind and Ruud van Nistelrooy form the new technical staff of the Dutch team,” KNVB confirmed on Friday.

The Dutch FA also confirmed that the 67-year-old’s contract would run only to the end of Euro 2016, after which time assistant coach Blind takes over, in charge of the bid for a 2018 Fifa World Cup qualification.

Outgoing coach Van Gaal has hinted he doesn’t look to extend his contract beyond this summer showpieece and is already linked with the coaching job at Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

“They go to work after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The KNVB has a contract agreed with Hiddink that connects him from 1 August 2014 to the European Championship in 2016 in France as coach. Blind and Van Nistelrooy are appointed for the same period as an assistant coach.

“After Euro 2016, Blind will replace Hiddink as coach, extending his contract with the KNVB to the 2018 World Cup in Russia,” the FA added.

The former Anzhi Makhachkala of Russia coach has previously had spell with the South Korean, Australian, Russian and Turkish national teams.

A delighted Hiddink said: “I am honoured to return as coach for the Dutch team. With Danny Blind and Ruud van Nistelrooy we also have a solid team with a lot of football knowledge and experience.

“It is wonderful that I can oversee my own succession. In this way the football vision for the Dutch team in the long term can be guaranteed.”
