No fewer than 30,000 new members have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) from other parties at the weekend. Most of the members are from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) in Oshimili North and South, and Ika North and South local government areas of Delta State.
According to reports, the defectors averred that they have been disillusioned in their former parties as a result of alleged impositions, adding that they resolved to join the APC to breathe the air of freedom.
Speaking to newsmen in Asaba, a chieftain of the APC, Chief Anthony Azuya, who hails from Ibuso near Asaba, said the people defected from the ruling party and DPP to APC to emancipate themselves from “enslavement”,
Azuya added that APC will demonstrate true democracy in the state come 2015.
“A lot of people from the PDP in the areas during the APC registration exercise turned out in large numbers to register,” he concluded.
